Some of the very well known big technical support companies really do not live up to their name. They may be a subsidiary of a large established company, so customers naturally feel like they are leaving their computer in good hands, but this is not usually the case. What frequently ends up happening is the customer overpays to have their hard drive wiped out and the operating system reinstalled on their machine. There are times when there is simply no other option but to reinstall the operating on a machine, but some companies treat this a universal fix because it requires the least amount of troubleshooting skill! I have lost count of how many times I've had a client come to me shortly after paying Best Buy's Geek Squad hundreds of dollars to not address the real problem.
